Strategic Set Times at Venues | The Daily Mustard | Vol. 2 Issue 1

TRADE the last 30 minutes of an evening’s dwindled audience for MORE patrons during your “prime time”!

How?

Replace three 60-minute sets with two 90-minute sets, and watch the magic unfold.

Anymore, the old “three 60-minute sets” formula doesn’t really work.  People get bored during the set breaks…they get anxious, and thanks to booze they have an even lessened attention span.  Those two half-hour breaks literally give the audience a FULL hour to wait for the band to start up again.  BUT…with two 90-minute sets, that first set gets ‘em thirsty, and the break is a welcome interlude to the night: get some drinks, use the restroom, etc.  And then you hit them with another 90 minutes of entertainment.

A little advice?  Have the band start at 8:30. Done at midnight.  WHY?  Because nothing good ever happens after midnight…and after that point in the night,  just let the jukebox play.  In fact, if the band performing that night and the crowd aren’t a good match, it could even be your saving grace.

I know what you’re thinking; “…but this format “only” spans 3.5 hours, as opposed to 4”.  YES.  But let me tell you, friend…it’s the EXACT SAME AMOUNT of performance time - just allocated differently.  This way, you’ll find more patrons stick around for your prime sales time, and your staff will assuredly welcome the change – as there will be more money in your tills and in their pockets.

Might not work right away, until your patrons get used to the change.  But with heightened DWI enforcement, they’ll adapt rather quickly to what will likely become the industry ‘norm’!
